Katy Fowler

Katy Fowler is an experienced teacher with a specialization in literacy and behavior management/emotion regulation for lower elementary age students. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Education from St. Lawrence University and Masters in Elementary Education from Manhattanville College. Over the last six years, she taught Kindergarten and First Grade at independent schools in Fairfield County, Westchester County, and Manhattan.

Trained in Orton Gillingham, Wilson Fundations, and Preventing Academic Failure methodologies, Katy is able to assess students and create an individualized, multi-sensory literacy program to best support each child’s needs. Literacy sessions can include (but are not limited to) phonemic awareness development, letter/sound ID, blending, decoding and encoding, orthographic mapping, phonics, fluency, reading rate, comprehension, and vocabulary development.

In addition to reading support, Katy utilizes her background in child psychology (training in social emotional learning, anger, anxiety, divorced and blended families, and cognitive behavioral therapy) to work with children on their emotion regulation, coping strategies, and communication skills. She also supports parents as they navigate parenting challenges and works with them to create common language and behavior strategies with their child.

Katy has experience working with students diagnosed with dyslexia, language-based disabilities, ADHD, anxiety, sensory/auditory processing disorders, and executive functioning disorder. She strongly believes in the link between self-confidence and life success both emotionally and academically, and works to nurture this throughout each session.
